Why My Mother Can't Speak English

From reading the short story of "Why My Mother Can't Speak English," Engkent's mother did not choose to learn the English language because she felt that if she did it would change her Chinese soul. I believe it is necessary for her to learn English because its an important factor in order for her to gain the citizenship that she wants. The benefits that would come out of her learning English would be her having the knowledge of what was going on instead of her just knowing a certain amount of "restaurant words" for her job. Also i think it would give her many more opportunities with things she wanted to do. Although she did get her citizenship in Canada i feel like without her knowing English it does leave her with limitations because she doesn't know the proper language.

Whoops!

Have you ever tried making plans with someone and had them be completely screwed up because of a miscommunication? Well I have. Last week my friend Katie and I wanted to go shopping for our friend Kaylee's birthday. I told her to meet me at the mall on Tuesday at 6. We wanted to go to the really nice mall which was about 40 minutes from my house. I drove all the way to the mall and she wasn't at our usual meeting place. I walked around a few different spots looking but I couldn't find her. It was only 6:15, and Katie is always late so I wasn't too concerned just yet. I went to our favorite store and began to shop for Kaylee. I looked down at my phone, realized I had no missed calls or texts, and saw that it was already 6:45! I grabbed my phone and called Katie.
"Where are you?" I asked.
"At home, doing some homework and eating. Where are you?" She responded calmly.
"Uhm...the mall! Like we planned!"
"Wait, we said we were meeting next Tuesday...the 6th!"
This whole time I had meant that we were meeting at 6 pm and she thought I meant we were meeting next Tuesday, which was the 6th. At this moment I realized I was going to have to start being a lot more specific when making plans because miscommunications can really ruin your plans!

oh the life....

Well it is now week 3 into the semester and everything is going great! Somethings are getting a little stressful but nothing that I cant handle. I've been writing a lot of papers lately. Although I do enjoy writing sometimes it does get a little over whelming! Most of the papers I've been writing haven't been assigned to be too long, but they are still up there. The paper for this class is gonna be my longest paper so far in college. It doesn't look like its gonna be too hard just because i have made it through the first two pages. Then again i do still have three left. I really am enjoying myself though its a good experience.

Memory

From all of my favorite memories of being back home if I had to pick,
there is one single thing that comes to my mind fairly quick.
Summertime and the scorching sun, floating in the water and family barbecues brought so much fun.
Waking up, and looking out the window seeing friends on their boats just driving by, I wont ever forget the best fireworks on the 4th of July.
As summer was beginning to die down, it meant pond hockey season was coming around.
The lake brought me the best of memories, it was one of my greatest tokens.
Thats why my favorite memory of being back home would have to be Lake Oakland.

It's Me!

Hello!
Im Alexis, I love to go out on the weekends, im very outgoing, and tons of fun. I  also love to dance and snowboard. One of my major obsession in life is shoes. My favorite food in the whole world would have to be pickles, i cant live without them. Something that really bothers me is when people stare, but other than that i'm easy to get along with!
